AESDA earmarks ?50m for disaster management this year

Winneba, Aug 11, GNA – The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly has formed a disaster management committee and earmarked 50 million cedis towards the management of disaster this year.

Mr Solomon Abban-Quaye, the District Chief Executive, heads the seven-member committee that has representatives from the Police Service, Fire Service, Ghana Health Service and the Information Services Department.

Mr Abban-Quaye urged members to work hard to control and manage disasters and promised that the assembly would assist the committee to discharge its duties efficiently.

Mr Williams Adjei-Benin, The Central Regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation who inaugurated the committee, said properties valued at 3.6 billion cedis were destroyed between May and April through “Hydro Meteorological related Disaster.” He called on members to bring their rich experience and expertise to bear on the work of the committee to help reduce disaster in the district.
