Apam (CR), Aug 10, GNA – The Gomoa District HIV/AIDS Focal Person, Mr Eric Akobeng, has cautioned students not to be lured into sex by condom advertisements.
He urged them to abstain from sex until they were married after their education.
Mr Akobeng was speaking at an HIV/AIDS workshop organised by Hacky Films, an Accra-based enterprise with funds from the Ghana AIDS Commission for some pupils and students of some Basic and Second cycle schools in the Gomoa District at Apam.
He cautioned Ghanaians not to misconstrue the identification of people between the ages of 15 to 49 years as the most vulnerable to think that those below or above could not contract the disease. HIV/AIDS is no respecter of age and people should not let the age mislead them, he said.
Ms Joyce Aidoo, Gomoa District Chief Executive (DCE), appealed to parents to provide their children in boarding houses with their needs to prevent “Sugar Daddies” from using money and gifts to lure them into sex.
The DCE called for severe punishment for men who enticed schoolgirls with money and gifts in exchange for sex. Mr Steve George Hackman, Executive Director of Hacky Films, advised students not to allow their peers to influence them to engage in early sex since that could jeopardise their education. Mr John Kobena Yamoah, Programme Co-ordinator of the programme urged teachers to intensify sex education to make students aware of their sexuality.
