WFTC outlines development programme

Tarkwa (W/R), Aug 9, GNA – Machines worth 15 millions cedis for a Bamboo industry in the Wassa Fiase Traditional area are lying idle. The Omanhene of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, Osagyefo Kwamina Enimil Vl, said this in an interview with the GNA at Tarkwa to announce a number of projects to be executed in the area by the Council. He said the Council initiated a programme to train the youth in the Bamboo industry since the grass thrived in the area.

Osagyefo Kwamina Enimil said trainers from Assin Fosu were engaged to train the youth in the industry free of charge for a six-month period.

He said 120 were registered for the programme but only four completed the training and stated the even the four later abandoned the project and attributed their lack of interest to the quick money attitude of the people due to the galamsey activities in the area. The Omanhene pointed out, however, that the Council was still not discouraged but would do all it could to create youth employment. He told the GNA that the Council had plans to establish a Filling Station, a Stone Quarry and a Parking Lot to create jobs.

The Omanhene said while the Filling Station and the Parking Lot would be situated at Tarkwa the Quarry would be established at Wassa Damang.

He said that the Filling Station would be operational by the end of the year since it was less capital intensive while the Stone Quarry, which required a huge capital expenditure would be executed later.
