Farmer, 27, remanded for alleged murder

Cape Coast, Aug. 9, GNA – A circuit court at Cape Coast, on Tuesday remanded Kwesi Etsiwah, a 27-year old farmer from Baafikrom near Mankessim for allegedly murdering his friend during a fight. Etsiwah’s plea was not taken and will be re-arraigned on Wednesday, August 24.

Police Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh that sometime in March 2002, Etsiwah and the deceased Kwame Ofori, attended a funeral at Oborko, near Baafikrom and both men returned drunk in the night.

He said at about 20:00 hours that night, Etsiwah saw his niece who lived with her mother in the same house as Ofori, loitering in town and therefore decided to escort her home.

Chief Inspector Amonoo alleged that after taking his niece home, a quarrel broke out between the two friends, which later generated into a fight, during which the deceased allegedly slashed Etsiwah with a cutlass, opening a deep cut in the head.

He further alleged that Etsiwah in turn, hit Ofori several times with a stick until he collapsed and died and a report was made to the police.
