Court seizes Akatsi District Assembly vehicle

Denu, Aug 08, GNA – The failure of the Akatsi District Assembly to pay its workers’ social security contributions amounting to 58 million cedis as at 2003 has forced the Dzodze District Court, presided over by Mr Justice Nelson Agbevor, to seize one of its vehicles on August 03. The seizure followed an application filed by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

The double cabin Nissan Pick Up is to be auctioned to defray the indebtedness to SSNIT.

Until it granted the seizure application on July 19, the same court ruled in favour of SSNIT in a writ it filed, seeking the court’s intervention to recover the amount from the assembly in 2003. A post dated cheque for 15 million cedis the assembly issued to SSNIT as part payment after the first ruling in 2003 was dishonoured 29. The assembly’s total indebtedness to SSNIT has risen to 102 million cedis.
