Trinity Baptist donates books to schools

Kumasi, Aug 05, GNA – The Trinity Baptist Education Support Ministry (TRI-BESM), a non-governmental organisation of the Trinity Baptist Church at Patasi in Kumasi, has presented books and other teaching aids worth 300 million cedis to some schools in the Kumasi metropolis.

The books were donated by the York University and Vaughn Public Library in Toronto, Canada, through Vernon Stong and Thomas Asamoah, both volunteers based in Canada.

They included mega books and toys for basic schools, fiction, novels and magazines. Others were books on psychology, sociology and French that would be presented to the Alliance Francaise. The beneficiary schools are the University of Education Winneba’s Technology Education College in Kumasi, Ghana Baptist Theological Seminary, Abuakwa, Three Stars Preparatory School, Buokrom, and the Trinity Baptist Educational Complex at Patasi.

Presenting them on Thursday, Reverend Akwasi Addo Domfeh, a Senior Pastor of the church, said the NGO and the volunteers have collaborated to offer material assistance to educational institutions and other public libraries.

He said arrangements were ongoing to provide more books and computers to schools in the Kumasi metropolis. Dr Steve Sobotie, Principal of the Technology Education College, thanked the donors for the books.

He appealed to them to help link up the university with other teacher training institutions in Canada to offer exchange programmes and assistance to the university.

Rev George Solomon Mallet, Director of the Baptist Theological Seminary, said the books would help equip the library of the seminary that offers courses in anthropology, psychology, sociology and others for the reverend ministers. 05 Aug 05
