Gomoa Kumasi (C/R), Aug 05, GNA – The Adventist Development And Relief Agency (ADRA), Ghana and USAID are assisting 13 communities in the Gomoa and Awutu-Effutu-Senya districts to construct boreholes to solve their perennial water problem.
The cost of the project is 1.105 billion cedis and beneficial communities are expected to contribute a commitment fee of one million cedis for a borehole that cost 90 million cedis.
The communities are Gomoa Amanfrom, Gomoa Obri, Gomoa Famanyie, Gomoa Shwidame, Gomoa Kumasi, Gomoa Lome, Gomoa Simbrofo, Gomoa Koforidua and Ajumako Ansa all in the Gomoa district. The rest are Awutu Kwei, Kwabena Andor in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District, Mr Isaac Kankam-Boadu, Field Project Officer of Awutu-Effutu-Senya District of ADRA Ghana/USAID, told the GNA in an interview on Thursday.
The first phase of the project that involved frilling to hit water is almost completed. The second phase, installation of hand pumps, will start after the completion of the first phase.
He said last year ADRA Ghana/USAID provided Gomoa Asempanye, Gomoa Dago, Osai Krodua, Senya Beraku and Kubo Akyire with some boreholes. Mr Kankam-Boadu said ADRA Ghana/USAID is executing a five-year-programme under the “Food Security and Health/Nutrition-Sanitation” that was started in 2002 and would end in 2006.
