Pokuase youth urged to embrace community-policing concept

Pokuase, July 31, GNA – Mr Douglas Akrofi Asiedu, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Greater Accra Region, has urged the youth of Pokuase to embrace the community-policing concept to help combat crime in the area. He expressed regret that the police lacked the resources to provide adequate security in the area and said the involvement of chiefs and the youth in the fight against crime was the only way to control violence and criminal activities in the area.

Mr Akrofi was speaking at the weekend, during a call on Nii Otto Kwame III, chief of Pokuase, as part of a day’s working visit to Pokuase, in the Ga West District. “The Police are doing their best to combat crime notwithstanding the constraints, ” he said and stressed that they could still do better if the public would co-operate by way of volunteering adequate information to them for prompt action. “My doors are wide open”, he assured the chiefs and people.

Nii Otto Kwame announced that the Pokuase Traditional Authority was prepared to offer a parcel of land for the police to establish a barrack. He said the major security problem of the area was the introduction of land guards who were terrorising the citizens. Nii Otto Kwame pointed out that the real perpetrators of crime in the area were those who were selling land illegally with impunity and had hired land guards to protect their interests saying, “It is the land guards who have transformed into armed robbers and vice versa”.

Mr Samuel Attoh, Member of Parliament for Amasaman/Trubuom and the Ga West District Police Commander Mr Mike Teku accompanied Mr Akrofi Asiedu. Also at the meeting were Nii Offei Nkwantabisa III, Gayasetse, Naa Densua II, Maanye, Nii Ataa Ofei Dodoo, Head of Dodoo Clottey Family and Nii Onamonsro, clan elder, all of the Pokuase stool.
