Army Commander assures Ghanaians

Wa, July 29, GNA – Major-General Samuel Anum Odotei, Chief of the Army Staff, has said nothing would distract the military from its core businesses of providing security for all Ghanaians to ensure continued peace and stability in the country. He said they had seen how conflicts destroyed some nations and would therefore want their civilian compatriots to co-operate with them to carry out the constitutional requirement of providing security.

Maj-Gen Odotei said this when he paid a courtesy call on Mr Ambrose Dery, the Upper West Regional Minister. Accompanied by Brigadier-General Joseph Narh Adinkrah, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command and other officers, he interacted with personnel of the detachment of the Airborne Force based at Wa and participated in a Regional Security Council meeting.

Maj-Gen Odotei said a military barracks would be established at Wa as soon as the necessary infrastructure was provided. Mr Dery commended the Armed Forces for their contribution to making Ghana an oasis of peace and stability in the sub-region. He also acknowledged the excellent performance of the military detachment in Wa both in the discharge of their professional duties and their relationship with civilians and the other security agencies. The Regional Minister gave the assurance that the Regional Co-ordinating Council would continue to support the personnel of the detachment to make their duty tour in the Region memorable.
