St Augustine’s students attempt to raid Holy Child

Twenty-four final year students of Saint Augustine’s College who attempted to enter one of the dormitories of the Holy Child School in the early hours of Friday were arrested and detained by the police.

The boys, who are scheduled to complete their final examinations next week, are to be released to the authorities of their school after signing a bond to be of good behaviour.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Rose Bio Atinga, the Central Regional Police Commander, said the boys would be released because they did not destroy any property or gain access to the dormitory.

She told the GNA after a closed door meeting with the authorities of the two schools and the Regional Directorate of Education that any punitive measures would be left to the authorities of St Augustine’s College.

An eyewitness, who is a member of a watch committee in the communities around the Holy Child School, told the GNA that at about 0130 hours on Friday, members of the committee heard shouts from the school.

He said the committee members saw the boys, “some of them wearing just singlets and boxer shorts and singing at the top of their voices, attempting enter one of the dormitories but they were prevented.

Speaking to the GNA, Mr Frank Amissah, the Headmaster of St Augustine’s College, expressed concern about the behaviour of his students.

He could however, not specifically say what punitive measures might be meted out to them.
