Accra, July 28, GNA – A 49 year-old farmer who succeeded in collecting 46 million cedis from a businessman under the pretext of securing him a visa but failed to honour his promise appeared before an Accra Regional Tribunal on Monday charged with fraud. Stephen Ahorlu, the farmer, pleaded not guilty to defrauding Mr Stephen Yeboah of the amount and the tribunal granted him a 50 million-cedi bail with one surety.
The case for the Prosecution was that last month, Mr Yeboah expressed his desire to travel to Britain and a friend introduced him to Ahorlu as somebody who could help him to secure a visa. Ahorlu charged 80 million cedis for his services and after collecting 46 million cedis and 100 dollars from Mr Yeboah as part payment, he promised to secure the visa for him within the shortest possible time.
The accused person, however, failed to honour his promise and upon persistent demands for refund, he told Mr Yeboah that he could double money for him to replace whatever amount he had taken from him. On July 8 Ahorlu went to the Sakumono Estates residence of Mr Yeboah with a metal bar cut to the size of a US dollar note and a machine to print the money. Mr Yeboah alerted the Police and while Ahurlu was in the process of printing he was arrested.
