Inhabitants of Bakanta to be re-settled

Bakanta (W/R), July 27, GNA- Plans are afoot to re-settle the inhabitants of Bakanta, a fishing community in the Nzema East District, due to threats of tidal waves.

Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, announced this, when he visited the area to ascertain the extent of damage by recent flooding caused by tidal waves on Tuesday. The flood destroyed coconut trees and about 100 houses, displacing many people.

Mr Aidoo said, “What happened was a little tsunami and nobody can predict what would happen next, when the tidal waves strike again”. He said the government would not impose its will on the people, who should decide whether to move to a safer place or remain at the present settlement.

Mr Aidoo, however, said it take sometime to resettle them, because a new site would have to be found. Mr Kojo Armah, Member of Parliament for Evalue-Gwira, accompanied the Minister.
