TEIN explains B/A Ministers stance at People’s Forum

Sunyani, (B/A) July 27, GNA – The Sunyani Polytechnic branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party has described as unfortunate the misconception by the school’s TEIN of National Democratic Congress about comments made by Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister at the fourth forum on the People’s Representation and Whistle Blower’s Bills in Sunyani.

A statement signed by Mr. Amoako Asiedu Atta-Kakra, president, noted that TEIN and followers of NDC did not comprehend what the Regional Minister said to a questioner.

The statement said Nana Seinti stated: “We are here to discuss serious issues and not to listen to frivolous questions”, after Mr. Mustapha Haji, a participant wanted to know if by approving the People’s Representation Bill, Ghanaian children abroad would enjoy the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) in those countries as well.

“We believe that question could have infuriated the Regional Minister but rather he showed the sign of maturity by handling the question diplomatically”, it stated, adding it was a plan by TEIN to taint the hard won reputation of the Minister.

The statement expressed grave concern about how the NDC members of Parliament refused to join the Parliamentary Select Committee to seek views from members of the general public about the bills, saying, “We believe it was a calculated motive to disrupt such an important national assignment”.

It alleged that members of NDC who attended the forum were there to spite the entire committee members and to made mockery of the exercise. TEIN of NDC condemned alleged “blatant contempt” exhibited by Nana Seinti at the forum on July 15 this year. The Representation Bill is aimed at ensuring that Ghanaians resident outside the country exercise their democratic voting rights during elections, while the whistle blowers bill will constitutionally empower Ghanaians to help government to check corruption without fear of favour. 27 July 05
