75% of Ghana?s Forests Gone

Ghana has lost over 75 per cent of her forest cover in the last few decades with an unprecedented pressure on the fast diminishing forest and other natural resources, Christine Churcher, minister for environment and science, has said.

Addressing a two-day capacity building seminar held at Agona Swedru for members of the parliamentary select committee on environment, science and technology, Ms Churcher said that the country lost over 2 million cedis annually through environmental degradation of various forms, especially the illegal felling of trees and mining.
