Court fines two drivers, remands another

Cape Coast July 23, GNA_ Alfred Cann, a 34-year-old driver was on Friday fined two million cedis by a circuit court at Cape Coast for careless driving and negligently causing harm to two persons. He pleaded guilty would go to prison for one year in default. Prosecuting chief inspector David Darko, told the court, presided over by Mr. Mustapha Logoh, that on February 5 this year at about 1400 hours, Cann was driving a Mercedes Benz bus with passengers on board from Accra towards Takoradi.

He said he attempted to overtake another vehicle when he got to Biriwa, and in the process, veered off the road and knocked down two men who were walking along the road. He said the two sustained injuries and were rushed to the regional hospital.

In a related development, Charles Hayford, another driver, was fined 400,000 cedis or in default three months imprisonment for over speeding. The court, also granted Asem Krampah Kowfie, 40 million cedis bail with a surety to be justified for alleged careless driving and negligently causing harm.

He pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on August 9.
