Ghanaians expect Armed Forces to be committed

Sekondi, July 22, – GNA-Madam Sophia Horner-Sam Deputy Western Regional Minister has said that the people would entrust their security into the hand of only highly trained, disciplined and committed Armed Forces. She also reminded members of the Armed Forces that the laws of the land enjoins them be defenders of the constitution; subject themselves under it, and not to become symbols of tyranny, oppression and brutality. Madam Horner-Sam said these at the passing-out parade for 87 recruits who underwent the basic navy trade training Mumber 68 at the Sekondi Naval base on Friday.

“Under no circumstances must this nation return to the chaotic and disgusting era where the army was deeply involved in the mayhem that led to many deaths, maiming and pain among the citizenry,” she stressed.

Madam Horner-Sam urged the Ghana army to continually be peacemakers within and outside the country to safeguard lives and property. Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Daniel Boadi won the best all round, Ordinary Seaman Under Training (OSUT) and best in drill awards. CPO Richmond Owusu-Sekyere won the best in academics award, while Fefey Dotsey won the best in weapon training award.

Commander S. V. A. Coomson, Commanding Officer of the Navy Trade Training School, administered the oath of allegiance. The Western Naval Command is currently under Commodore F. Daley, who is the Flag Officer Commanding.
