Chief urges teachers to show commitment to their work

Ejura (Ash), July 20, GNA – Nana Kwaku Sarfo II, chief of Ejura in Ashanti has called on teachers to show renewed commitment and work hard to impart knowledge and acceptable values to their students.

He said this way, they would help not only to raise the academic performance of students but also check indiscipline among them. Nana Sarfo was speaking at the presentation of five “Pentium 3” computers and their accessories donated by Ejura citizens in the United States of America (USA) to the Ejuraman Anglican Secondary School at Ejura on Tuesday.

The computers were valued at 15 million cedis.

The chief commended the Right Reverend Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi and the brain behind the provision of the computers and urged the students to take advantage of the facility to improve on their academic performance.

Mr Sammy Attah, Headmaster of the school, said it was rather unfortunate that some parents at times blamed teachers for the failure of students, forgetting that the success of students was a shared responsibility of the school, home and the community.

He observed that poor academic performance in schools could be attributed to poor foundation of students at the basic level and the lack of commitment on the part of parents.

Mr Attah commended the donors for the assistance, which he said would go a long way to promote and support the development of education, which is of paramount importance to everybody.

Rt. Rev Sarfo, who presented the computers to the school on behalf of the donors, said the donors intend to purchase a bus for the school. The Bishop expressed the hope that both teachers and students of the institution would find the computers beneficial.

Mr Zimi Toora, Deputy District Director of Education, appealed to the District Assembly to liaise with the Ghana Telecommunication to establish an Internet caf=E9 for the school.
