Assemblies reject President’s nominees

Gwollu (U/W), July 15, GNA – The President’s nominees as district chief executives for the new Sissala West and New Wa East Districts on Thursday failed the confirmation process when they could not obtain the required two-thirds of the votes of their assembly members to get their nomination approved at elections held at Gwollu in the Sissala West and Funsi in Wa East.

The President’s nominee as DCE for the Sissala West District, Mr. Salifu Waah, the acting DCE for the district, polled eight out of the eighteen votes cast, representing 44.4 per cent of the votes cast, which fell below the minimum 50 per cent he needed for a second round of voting.

Mr Hudeen Ahmed Daud, the nominee as DCE of the Wa East District, polled 14 out of twenty-three votes, missing the chance to be confirmed by one vote.

In the first round of election held about ten days ago, Mr Daud polled 13 out of the 23 votes. So far, four districts in the region have confirmed their nominee as DCEs.

They are Mr George Sulley for Lawra, Mr Mark A. Band for Wa municipal, Mr Justin B. Dakurh for Nadowli.

Mr Ambrose Dery, the Regional Minister, who witnessed the two elections conducted by the EC said the government will abide by their decision adding that, this is what democracy means.
