Adansi North confirms Ameyaw as first DCE

Fomena (Ash), July 13, GNA – The Adansi North District Assembly on Tuesday gave Mr Peter Kwabena Ameyaw the nod to become the first District Chief Executive (DCE) when the assembly members overwhelmingly voted to endorse his nomination by the President. Adansi North is one of the newly created districts carved from the former Adansi West.

Forty-four out of the 46 assembly members voted ‘yes’ with one rejected vote, enabling Mr Ameyaw, the NPP chairman for Adansi-Asokwa Constituency, to secure 95.6 per cent that represented more than the required two-thirds majority.

Mr S. K. Boafo, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mrs Patricia Appiagyei, the Deputy Regional Minister and Mr K. T. Hammond, the Deputy Minister of Energy were among those present.

Mr Ameyaw said his confirmation was a challenge to him, since the district is new. He appealed to the entire district, especially the assembly members, to unite and join hands in developing the district.

Earlier, the Adansi South District Assembly had endorsed the President’s nominee, Mr Francis Dorpenyoh, as the DCE. He secured 49 out of the 53 votes representing 92.4 per cent.
