Asuano (B/A), July 10, GNA – The chiefs and people of Asuano, a farming community in the Nkoranza District, have appealed to the government to assist them to connect the area to the national electricity grid.
Nana Owusu Koranteng Ababio, chief of the area, told the GNA in an interview on Friday that the community had been able to purchase 150 low-tension poles, has erected them and is waiting on the government to wire them.
Nana Ababio said the community had spent over 45 million cedis on the project through individual contributions of 50,000 cedis a man and 25,000 cedis a woman in addition to fund-raising harvests. He said for over six years efforts the community made to benefit from the government’s electrification project had failed even though many surrounding areas had been connected. These towns are Dandwa, Ayerede, Donkro-Nkwanta, Baanofour, Akropong and Bredi Number One
The chief also complained that a brick and tile factory the government built at Asuano under the European Union Micro-Projects programme had become a “white elephant” as it had been abandoned. Nana Ababio appealed to the Nkoranza District Assembly to revamp the project to promote.
