Nkoranza disaster volunteer groups commended for establishing farms

Nkwabeng (B/A), July 6, GNA – Mr. Alfred Attah-Yeboah, Nkoranza District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has commended disaster volunteer groups in the area for establishing maize farms to generate extra income to improve their economic status.

Mr Attah-Yeboah made the commendation when he led Nana Osei Asiedu, Regional NADMO Officer in-charge of Manpower and Social Mobilisation, to inspect the farms, covering a total of 40 hectares, at Nkwabeng, Akuma, Akonkonti, Dromankese and Kranka.

He expressed appreciation of the efforts of the volunteers in the judicious use of agricultural inputs supplied them on credit by the NADMO.

The National Secretariat of NADMO, as part of a measure to help alleviate poverty among the youth in rural communities provides disaster volunteer groups with agricultural inputs such as seed maize, fertilizers and ploughs farm fields for them on credit. Mr Attah-Yeboah asked the volunteers to work harder to obtain good harvests so they could repay the loans granted them and also improve their living standards.

He urged more of the youth to form disaster volunteer groups so that they could benefit from the credit facilities and promote the development of their communities.

Mr Attah-Yeboah urged the volunteers not to relent in their efforts at combating disasters, especially bushfires, which he described as an annual canker, to save lives and property from destruction. Nana Asiedu commended the volunteers for managing their farms for better yields.

He advised them to maintain the spirit to improve their economic activities.
