Assemblyman appeals for reconstruction of bridge

Tamale, July 05, GNA – An Assemblyman has appealed to the authorities to reconstruct a bridge at Gumani in the Tamale Metropolis to prevent perennial flooding in the area.

Mr Nyabto Emmanuel Abu Alhassan, the Assemblyman for the Gumani Electoral Area, said parts of the Tamale water drainage system had been diverted through Nyanshegu, Tunayili and Gumani, causing flooding when it rained because the bridge is too narrow to hold the volume of water that passes under it.

Speaking to the GNA in an interview in Tamale on Monday, Mr Alhassan said heavy rain in the Metropolis on Saturday evening destroyed about 40 houses at Gumani.

He appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, the Regional Coordinating Council and NGOs to come to the aid of 400 displaced persons.
