Mechanic in court for possessing drugs

Accra, July 4, GNA – An Accra Circuit Court on Monday remanded a 34-year-old mechanic into prison custody for possessing narcotic drugs. Kwame Quaye, a Motor Vehicle Mechanic based at Avenor, was found in possession of 63 wrappers and a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, a narcotic drug.

The Court did not take his plea and he is to reappear on July 19 this year.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Bennet Sarfo told the Court that sometime last month, a team of personnel from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit embarked on an anti- narcotic drug operation within the Accra Metropolis.

Chief Inspector Sarfo said the team went to Avenor where Quaye, who was suspected to be a drug peddler, was arrested with 63 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drug.

The Prosecution said when his room was searched a quantity of the same leaves was found. Quaye claimed ownership and mentioned one Kofi as the supplier but could not help the Police to locate him. Meanwhile the leaves have been sent to the crime laboratory for further examination.
