Ajumako (C/R), July 1, GNA – About 500 fire fighting volunteers would be trained in 50 towns and villages in the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam District of the Central Region to ensure fire prevention in the area.

Mr Alfred Adjepong Acheampong District Fire Officer of the district in an interview with GNA disclosed this, after inspecting some fire extinguishers at banking and government institutions in the district. He said the district recorded 16 fire outbreaks and property worth 80 million cedis were destroyed last year. He noted that the training of the volunteers was to get them prepared for any fire outbreak during the dry season.

Mr Acheampong stated that his inspection at the institutions proved that 95 per cent of them lack fire extinguishers and recommended that heads of institutions should purchase extinguishers to control fire outbreak in their premises. He appealed to the District Assembly to help repair the fire tender in the district, which has broken down for more than seven months.

Mr Acheampong stated that his outfit has put in place effective measures to prevent future outbreaks of fire in the district and called on the chiefs, assembly members and unit committees in the area to help achieve the goal of fire-free in the district.
