Non-traditional export crop producers appeal for support

Gomoa Potsin (C/R), June 29, GNA – Non-traditional export crop producers and exporters in the Gomoa District of the Central Region have appealed to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and the Gomoa District Assembly to assist them in cash and kind to enable them earn more foreign exchange for the nation.

A spokesman for the group, Mr Isaac Essel, who spoke to the GNA, mentioned inputs like water pumping machines, cutlasses, and the construction of small dams for irrigation to make them productive all year round.

Mr Essel, an exporter, mentioned pepper, pawpaw, garden eggs, (yaba yam) long beans, sweet pepper, pineapples, among others as some of the crops being produced in the area for export.

Nana Tweiku VII, Odikro of Potsin also supported the call, adding that, the youth of the area have accepted the challenge to go back to the land to take over from the aged farmers, but, what was needed now was incentives and other farming inputs to boost their morale. 29 June 05
