Driver’s mate jailed for stealing

Agona Swedru (C/R), June 29, GNA – A Circuit Court at Agona Swedru presided over by Mr. Charles Agyei Wilson, on Monday sentenced Agabus Kwesi Quainoo, a driver’s mate to four years imprisonment, in hard labour for stealing and driving without a driver’s licence. Quainoo, 28, a native of Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta District of the Western Region, pleaded guilty to the two counts.

Police Chief Inspector William Kwame Akannah told the court that on June 1, this year at dawn, he stole a Toyota minibus valued at 50 million cedis belonging to the Winneba Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).

Chief Inspector Akannah said the theft was reported to the Winneba Police who sent out radio messages leading to the arrest of Quainoo. The vehicle was also retrieved on the same day at Assin Fosu, while he was heading towards Kumasi.
