Farmer fined one million cedis for assault

Akim Swedru, June 28, GNA- A Circuit Court at Akim Swedru on Monday fined a 45-year-old farmer one million cedis for assaulting a drinking bar operator and causing damaged to her property. Akua Janet, from Akim Adjobue in the Birim North District will be jailed six months in default. She was also bonded to be of good behaviour.

The Presiding Judge, Mr Edward Kwame Bosompeng Apenkwa ordered that 300,000 cedis out of the fine should be given to the complainant, Janet Opoku, 26, as compensation. Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court that on June 13, the convict’s husband went to the complainant’s drinking bar to buy drink. He said a quarrel ensued between Janet’s husband and Opoku at the bar.

Chief Insp. Osei the convict confronted Miss Opoku at the bar, assaulted her and broke some of the drinks in the bar the following day.
