Buildings destroyed by rainstorm at Nokwareasa

Nokwareasa (Ashanti Region) 12 April ’99

A severe rainstorm has destroyed more than 20 buildings, including a primary school block, at Nokwareasa, a farming community in the Ejura-Sekyedumasi district. About 100 inhabitants have been rendered homeless, while the school pupils have no where to hold classes. Mr E.K. Antwi, presiding member of the Ejura-Sekyedumasi district assembly on Saturday visited the village to assess the damage. Mr Abubakari Seidu, assemblyman for Nokwareasa, who conducted the presiding member round, said the displaced persons are now putting up with friends and relatives. Meanwhile, officials from the district secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have also visited the village to assess the situation.
