SSNIT drags K E and Sons to court

Agona Swedru, June 25, GNA – Nana Kwame Eyiah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of K E and Sons, a construction company, has appeared before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court for failing to pay the Social Security contribution of his employees amounting to 950 million cedis. Mr Theophilus Eyiah son of Nana Eyiah represented his father.

Prosecuting, Mr Matthew Kyeremanteng of the Social Security and National Trust (SSNIT) told the court presided over by Mr Charles Adjei Wilson that in March this year, the accused was dragged to court for failing to pay the contribution of employees of his four companies. According to him, Nana Eyiah who was then presented by Mr Kofi Lamptey his Counsel promised to pay but failed to honour it. He said the four companies included Greenland Hotel, which owed 253,103,002 cedis, Eyiaba Stone Quarry, 144,798,260.74 cedis, Abura Nkwantanan Salt Industry, 17,783,347.06 and K E and Sons Construction, 526,707,601.04 cedis.

The Presiding Judge, Mr Charles Wilson stated that the law was no respecter of persons and said Nana Eyiah had to know that failing to pay SSNIT contribution of his workers was “harmful” to his employees’ future.

Mr Wilson warned that if Nana Eyiah failed to settle his indebtedness to by the next adjourn date severe action would be taken against him since “it seems he is taking the court for granted. The case was been adjourned to July 15, 2005.
