Assembly confirms Kwesi Biney

Agona-Nkwanta (W/R) June 23,- GNA- Mr. Kwesi Biney, the President’s nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahanta West was finally given the nod at the Assembly’s second meeting within the past ten days at Agona-Nkwanta on Thursday.

Thirty-one out of the 45 Assembly Members at the meeting voted for his confirmation while 14 others voted against him.

Mr. Biney failed to poll the required two-thirds of the votes during the first round voting on June 14 when 22 of the 44 Assembly Members present at that meeting voted against his confirmation. That meeting nearly turned violent when a group of young men believed to be Mr. Biney’s supporters charged on some of the Assembly Members they suspected to have voted against Mr. Biney.

Today’s meeting, which was witnessed by a large crowd, including Mr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Western Regional Minister and other NPP leaders in the region, was calm and orderly.

Mr. Biney thanked the assembly members for confirming him and promised to focus on the infrastructural and human resource development of the area.

He said his victory was for the entire people of Ahanta, adding, “I will not aid anyone to do anything illegal in the district.” Mr. Biney said he would not victimise those who voted against him but would work closely for the rapid development of the area. Mr. Aidoo, Regional Minister thanked the members for honouring the President and asked members to unite and work for the good of the district.
