Sarroch-Gelfi workers resume work

Kumasi, June 21, GNA- Workers of Sarroch-Gelfi-JV, contractors working on the Asafo-Adum interchange in Kumasi on Tuesday resumed work after four days of strike over the delay in the payment of their salary arrears and overtime, which had been outstanding for about six months.

Some of the workers who spoke to the GNA said it took the intervention of Dr Richard Anane, Minister of Roads and Transport and the Department of Urban Roads officials to get the management of the company to promise them that payments would be made by Wednesday.

According to the workers, the management reached agreement with their representatives to pay two months arrears out of the accumulated six months immediately and settle the arrears for the remaining four months later.

The workers said authorities of the company explained to them that they were facing financial problems due to the high cost of building materials but said they would sort things out as early as possible. The recent strike brought to three the number of strike actions by the workers since the construction of the interchange began.
