Police search for attackers

Suhum, June 21, GNA – The police at Suhum in the Eastern Region are searching for seven men who attacked mourners at the funeral of a prominent cocoa farmer, Opanin Kofo Dornu, at Tettenku, and inflicted cutlass wounds on them last Saturday.

A police source mentioned the suspects as Obeng Yeboah, Joseph Gyangma, Yaw Out, Eric Asante, David Akwatey, Odumgya Kwasi Sumali and Kwesi Bugger. It said the suspects from Kofi Pare appeared at the funeral grounds armed and insulted the mourners without any provocations.

The source said the suspects threatened to kill anybody who dared to arrest them and in the melee they used the cutlasses on the mourners.

Four members of a spinning group who were engaged to provide music at the funeral sustained injuries and were treated and discharged at the Suhum Government Hospital. They were identified as Kwadjo Antwi, Paul Lartey, Kundjei Asamoah and Emmanuel Ayertey.

The Odikro of Tettenku, Nene Agawu Tettenku, II, appealed to the Police Administration to open a police post at Kofi Pare. He said the incident was the fourth to occur at funerals at Kofi Pare and Tettenku in recent times.
