Mother of defiled girl weeps in court as perpetrator is convicted

Accra, June 21, GNA – A 38-year-old mother on Tuesday caused a stir at an Accra Circuit Court when she broke down in tears soon after a 20-year-old truck pusher, who defiled her daughter, was jailed. Immediately the Court convicted Kwadwo Ofori to serve a seven-year jail term the woman rebuked her 13 year-old daughter blaming her for Ofori’s incarceration. Ofori pleaded guilty to defilement and the Court convicted him accordingly.

The woman who was shedding tears said: “You are a bad girl; because of you, the Court has convicted somebody’s son. God will punish you.” The victim’s mother shouted: “You should have been jailed for what you did. Is that what you were taught at your Sunday School Church Service?” The Prosecution told the Court earlier that Ofori and the victim had been lovers for the past five months.

On June 8, this year, the victim disappeared and her mother searched for her fruitlessly. She reappeared on June 12 and when her mother asked her where she had been, she said she was with Ofori. The Prosecution said the victim further told her mother that Ofori defiled for four days. The matter was reported to the Police and Ofori was arrested. Ofori admitted the offence in his caution statement.
