Chief condemns demonstration against President’s nominee

Nalerigu, (N/R), June 20, GNA – Nayiri Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdulai, King of Mamprugu, has condemned the demonstration carried out by some NPP supporters in Gambaga led by Alhaji Sabon Kudi, the constituency chairman last Wednesday, against the President’s nominee for the post of District Chief Executive for East Mamprusi.

The Nayiri Naa, the Gambarana Yahaya Wuni and Alhaji Mesuna Yahaya, the Imam of Gambaga, had earlier expressed support for the nomination of Mr Peter Wuni as DCE for East Mamprusi.

They described Mr Wuni as a unifying factor who could reconcile the people of the area to bring development.

The Nayiri and the two elders described the demonstration as a sign of disrespect to them as traditional rulers of the area and the President and called on Alhaji Sabon Kudi, the constituency chairman, to render an unqualified apology to the three chiefs and the President.

They also reiterated their support for Mr Wuni and said “We the traditional leaders whole heartedly welcome the nominee of the President and hope that the assembly will approve him as the District Chief Executive”.

The chiefs called on the NPP constituency chairman to let peace prevail in the district. 20 June 05
