Akuma Affiliate adjudged best in Ghana

Akuma (B/), June 18, GNA- The management of the Habitat for Humanity Ghana Projects, has adjudged the Akuma Affiliate in the Nkoranza district of Brong-Ahafo, as the over-all best affiliate in Ghana as regards their activities last year.

Consequently, 10 volunteers of the project from America have visited Ghana and are currently at Akuma to support the people to expand a housing project in the area.

Ms Alana Brennan, Leader of the Habitat Volunteers, told GNA at Akuma at the weekend that the group was going to spend two weeks with the people to assist in implementing the plan.

Ms Brennan said the performance of members of the Akuma Affiliate was extra-ordinary as they made a 100 per cent repayment of money taken for inputs for the building of the houses.

She urged the people to work harder to ensure the success of the project and promised them more financial support. Ms Brenna commended Field Coordinator of the Project, Mr Eben Forson for his contribution to the success of the project. Mr Smart Thommy Jones, chairman of the Akuma Affiliate of the Habitat Projects, said 30 houses had been built and the owners were already occupying them.

He said a seven-member management committee was been put in place to manage the project, adding that, the building currently under construction would contain two bedrooms, two large stores, a general office, a kitchen and places of convenience. It is made up of Mr Jones, chairman, Mr Charles Abraham Baffoe, Secretary, Miss Christiana Baah, Treasurer and Mr. Abraham Agyapong, financial secretary.

The others are Mr Francis Kofi Nketiah, storekeeper, Mr Atta Effah, Organizing Secretary and Miss Dora Tawiah, Women’s organizer. 18 June 05
