Examination leakages, dent on tertiary institutions-Prof Dordunoo

Hohoe, June 18, GNA- Professor Cletus Dordunoo, Chief Executive of Clay Dord Consul, at the weekend said the phenomenon of examination leakages was a dent on the corporate image of institutions of higher learning. He said the phenomenon should, therefore, be likened to corruption and culprits should be severely punished to serve as deterrent to others.

Prof. Dordunoo, also a former Director of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), in an interview with the He said evidence available suggested that the leakages were much more serious in recent times than previously, which called for concerted approach by students, lecturers, administrators and other auxiliary workers of the tertiary institutions to stop the phenomenon. He said examinations the world over were meant to ascertain or validate which grade a student belongs, adding, “Leakages are inimical to the values and ethics of the grading function”.

Prof Dordunoo wondered if the grades being obtained by students reflected the extent of their knowledge, skills, technical know-how, and the overall intellectual ability.

He suggested the re-introduction of interview sessions and entrance examinations as a way of accepting students into intermediate, second-cycle and tertiary educations.

Prof Dordunoo recounted that his first year in primary school took him to class four because of the different methods of assessment that was employed in those times, which could be revisited.
