Accra, June 17, GNA – An Accra Regional Tribunal (High Court) on Friday remanded a porter who was caught smoking marijuana on the streets of Accra. Alhassan Ademu was charged with possessing narcotic drug.
The porter whose plea was not taken would re-appear on June 29. Police Chief Inspector Mary Agbozo told the tribunal, chaired by Mr Justice Frank Manu that at about 0900 hours on June 13, the Rapid Response Unit of Ghana Police Service had information that a group of people were peddling and smoking Indian Hemp on the main street of Tudu in Accra.
Chief Inspector Agbozo said the “Monitor 3 Unit” led by Corporal Emmanuel Ashilevi proceeded to the scene and met a group of men smoking dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp. She said they took to their heels when they saw the police.
The prosecutor said the accused, who was then holding a black polythene bag, was arrested and when the bag was opened, a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp was found in it. Chief Inspector Agbozo said a further search conducted on Ademu revealed two pipes believed to be used by users of cocaine. She told the tribunal that the exhibits were forwarded to the crime laboratory for examination.
