New Edubiase (Ash), June 16, GNA – The Adansi North and South districts recorded about 300 rainstorms last year, the District Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has announced. NADMO named some of the worst affected communities as New Edubiase, Subin Camp, Hwediem, Subriso, Menang, Pewodie, Pipiiso, Aboabo Number Two and Ataaso-Nkwanta.
Mr Kwame Owusu-Boahen, Acting NADMO Co-ordinator for the two districts, who made this known to the press at New Edubiase on Monday, said property destroyed included school buildings, low-tension electricity poles and private houses. He said even though no lives were lost in the storms, steps were being taken to minimise their occurrence in the District.
Mr Owusu-Boahen said his outfit had embarked on the planting of 1,000 tree seedlings in the 10 communities, which were badly affected by the storms and designated as disaster prone areas. In addition, he said, NADMO was educating communities on the need to plant economic trees that would serve as windbreaks and from which they could derive some revenue.
Mr Owusu-Boahen said disaster volunteer groups had been formed in the 10 communities to assist in the planting of trees as well as nurturing them to maturity. He commended the Adansi South District Assembly for funding the tree planting exercise.
