Illegal chainsaw operator before court

Cape Coast, June 15, GNA – A circuit court at Cape Coast, on Wednesday granted an illegal chainsaw operator, Yaw Asare, 10 million cedis bail with two sureties when he appeared before it for allegedly using an unregistered chainsaw and negligently causing harm. Asare pleaded not guilty to the charges and will be re-arraigned on Wednesday, June 29.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh that, on February 5, last year, Asare was contracted by one Mr Kwesi Ansah to fell some trees at Adandan, in the Breman Asikuma area. He said one of the trees he fell, trapped Mr Ansah, who died whilst being conveyed to the hospital.

Chief Inspector Amonoo said a report was made to the police and Asare was arrested. At the same court a 56 -year- old farmer from Anomabu, Kofi Mbir, was bonded to be of good behaviour for 18 months for assault. Mbir, who had pleaded not guilty but later changed his plea to guilty, will in default, serve nine months imprisonment. He was in addition, ordered to pay 100,000 cedis as compensation to the victim.
