Oyibi (G/R) June 13, GNA – A sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a 300,000 dollar-hostel facility for the Seventh Day Adventists’ Valley View University was performed at Oyibi on Monday. The hostel would fulfil the University’s ambition of being able to get all students on campus, therefore, solving the accommodation and transportation problems faced by off-campus students.
Seventy-five per cent of the income generated from the operations of the hostel would be used to build a hostel facility for the Seventh Day Adventists University in Zambia, Mr Herbert Williams, the main sponsor of the project, said. The hostel to be named “Williams Hall” is being funded by the “Williams Family” a family of SDA members based in the United States of America.
“Williams Hall” would be a three-storey building unit with an Internet caf=E9 and meditation room at the rooftop. The building will have a total of 60 rooms with 20 rooms on each floor. Mr Williams said his family decided to help the University because of the success of Dr Samuel Twumasi, who his family adopted in 1971 and was the project coordinator. Mr Williams said his family had been involved in supporting Adventists organizations the world over.
Ms Rhodaline Macquaye, a student of the school, said students who lived off-campus had a lot of problems with accommodation and landlords, which affected their studies. Pastor Paul Mensah, Chairman of the Valley View University Board of Trustees, commended the Williams Family for the support. He said the school was really in need of a hostel facility.
