Asamankese (E/R) June 9, GNA – Members of the National Citrus Growers Association of Ghana have resolved to shift from the use of inorganic fertilizer to the use of organic manure to meet international standards. Mr Appiah Amankwah, National Chairman of the Association, announced this at the Association’s delegates’ meeting at Asamankese with Seam Information Communication and Technology Consult, an ICT consultancy firm.
The Association has asked all members to convert fully to the use of organic manure by June 2007. He said the Association would recruit 30 to 40 youths in every citrus growing district and train them on the preparation and use of organic manure so that that they could assist farmers in the conversion process. Mr Amankwah said citrus produced from organic manure had very good taste and enhanced the health of consumers.
Mr Eric Akomiah, Managing Consultant of the Seam ICT Consult, expressed satisfaction with the effort of the Association and said his outfit would complement its effort by exposing them to international customers. He said the Consult would create a website for the Association to enable it to access foreign contacts and be able to attract investors into the local processing of citrus.
