ADRA provides water for 15 communities

Winneba (C/R), June 9, GNA – The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Ghana, with financial support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is constructing boreholes and wells for 15 communities in the Gomoa and Awutu-Effutu-Senya Districts, this year.

Mr. Isaac Kankam-Boadu, Field Project Officer in-charge of the Winneba branch, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Wednesday, that the facilities would cost one billion, two hundred and seventy-five million cedis. Beneficiary communities include Gomoa-Lome, Gomoa-Fawomanye, Gomoa-Koforidua, Gomoa-Osedze, Gomoa-Obokrom, Gomoa-Kumasi, Gomoa-Dago and Gomoa-Hweeda. The rest are Gomoa-Amanful, Gomoa-Ajumako-Ansah, Gomoa-Obiri, Senya-Beraku, Awutu-Ayiresu and Awutu-Kwabena Andoh. He said six of the 15 communities including Gomoa-Lome, Fawomanye, Obokrom, Ajuamko-Ansah, Hweeda and Dago have had their boreholes and wells completed and were waiting for the fixing of pumping machines for the people to start using them.

Mr Kankam-Boadu said water from the boreholes and wells was of high quality and stated that the organisation last year provided six communities in the two districts including Kroboekyir, Osae-Krodua, Awutu-Quaye and Senya-Beraku with similar facilities to solve their water problem. He said ADRA was determined to help people in rural communities it operated to assist in improving their social and economic conditions through the provision of potable water, financial and agricultural assistance.

Mr. Richard Boateng, another Field Project Officer of ADRA, said the communities were expected to provide one million cedis commitment fee to open a bank account into which revenue would be paid for periodic maintenance of the pumping machines fixed on the boreholes and wells. He said this was to prevent community leaders from the imposition of regular maintenance levies on the people.
