New Edubiase market women appeal to district assembly

New Edubiase, (Ash), June 8, GNA – Market women in the New Edubiase Market have appealed to the Adansi South District Assembly to provide security measures to halt the frequent stealing at the market. They have also called on the Assembly to extend electricity to the market and to provide gates at all the entrances to check the activities of thieves especially during the night. The women’s appeal followed the increasing rate of stealing at market in recent times.

Madam Abenaa Ameyaa, Spokesperson for the women, told the Ghana News Agency that the thieves had been having a field day because the Assembly had not been providing security at the market during the night. She said most of the women had lost bags of rice, sugar, cooking oil and other items to the thieves who had been breaking into their stores in the night. Madam Ameyaa said lack of lockable entrance gates and electricity at the market had enabled people to enter the market at odd hours without any check and appealed to the Assembly to institute immediate measures to address the problem.

Mr James Appiah, Senior Local Government Inspector of the Assembly; told the GNA that it was the Assembly’s responsibility to provide security at the market and explained that that had not been done because the market was still under construction. Mr Appiah, however, indicated that the Assembly would provide temporary measures to bring the situation under control. The New Edubiase Police confirmed the theft cases at the market and said investigations were still going on to arrest the culprits.
