Driver jailed for dealing in drugs

Accra June 8, GNA – The Greater Accra Regional Tribunal on Wednesday sentenced a 67-year-old driver to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard for dealing in drugs. Shamo Abbey charged with possessing narcotic drugs (192 grams of wee) pleaded not guilty. The court found him guilty.

The Prosecution called three witnesses to make up a case against Abbey. The facts as presented by prosecuting Mr Augustines Obuor, an Assistant State Attorney, were that Abbey resides in an uncompleted building at Lashibi, near Tema. On February 2, 2002, a team of Police / Military personnel went on an operation at Lashibi and upon a tip-off searched Abbey’s room. Prosecution said the personnel found a bag containing leaves wrapped in newspapers, which turned out to be cannabis popularly known as “wee”. The Prosecutor said Abbey did not deny ownership.
