PIE supports educational institutions

Accra, June 7, GNA- Progress in Education (PIE), a non-governmental organization (NGO), on Monday presented computer accessories, science laboratory equipment and other items worth 35,000 dollars to nine educational institutions in the country.

The beneficiary schools were Aburi Girls Secondary School, Ghanatta Secondary School, Ebenezer Secondary School, Keta Secondary School and Tarkwa Secondary School.

The rest were Winneba Secondary School, Odorgonno Secondary School, Mfantsipim Secondary School and Kumasi Polytechnic. The equipment included 35 complete desktop computers, one over-head computer, one fax machine, one vacuum oven, two gas chromatographs and 216 beakers.

The other items were 144 boiling flasks, 300 test tubes, 144 Erlenmeyer flasks, 144 pipettes and twenty-four burettes. The Reverend Emmanuel Ansah, PIE Country Advisor, said the NGO was committed to improving education in second cycle institutions in the country.

He asked the students to make good use of the equipment and to study hard to enable them to pass their examinations. Rev. Ansah also said: “I hope this donation would motivate other people and organizations to support the educational sector.” Mrs Margaret Andan, Director of Secondary Education, called on the students to make good use of the items adding, “these are the items and equipment that are most needed in the second cycle institutions to move the country’s education forward.”

Mr James Mayes, Headmaster of Ghanatta Secondary School, on behalf of the beneficiary institutions, thanked the NGO for the gesture and gave the assurance that the items would be used judiciously for the benefit of the students.
