CSIR donates to Cardio Centre

Accra, June 7, GNA – The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on Tuesday presented a cheque for 10 million cedis to the Ghana Heart Foundation to help to meet the cost of treatment of cardiac patients.

The donation, which is the fifth, is an annual contribution from the Council.

Making the presentation on behalf of the Management and staff of all 13 CSIR institutes and secretariat, Dr Philip Gyau Boakye, Principal Research Scientist, said the Council was impressed with the operations of the National Cardio-thoracic Centre.

He said the two CSIR and the Cardio-thoracic Centre were bound together by the aspiration to become centres of excellence in research and expressed the hope that the contribution by the CSIR would go along way to support the activities of the Centre.

Dr Mark Tettey, Cardio-thoracic Surgeon, who received the cheque, commended the CSIR for its assistance to the Centre over the years. He explained that heart patients paid for only five per cent of the cost of surgery while the Foundation catered for the rest, adding that such donations not only supported the Centre to treat patients but also to carry on with research into heart related problems. 7 June, 05
