Upper West Police to reduce crime wave

Wa, June 3, GNA – The Upper West Regional Police Command has embarked on measures to reduce the high rate of crime and other offences in the Region.

As a starter, the Command is collaborating with the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Air-Borne Force Detachment at Wa and the Road Safety Commission to arrest all smuggled and unlicensed motor-bikes and road offenders. Mr George Anko-bil, Upper West Regional Police Commander, announced this during an interaction with the Media and the Executive Members of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).

He said apart from instituting a monthly interaction with the Executive Members of the GPRTU and the Media, suggestions boxes would also be placed at vantage points to capture public reactions to their activities.

Mr Anko-bil said there were a lot of traffic offenders in the Region and plans were far advanced to send all traffic offenders to the available driving schools to learn the rules and regulations of driving. He said they would work hard to redeem the image of the Police by restoring the confidence of the people in the Service.

Mr Anko-bil said he was not happy that motor accidents were claiming lives more than HIV/AIDS and malaria due to lawlessness in riding. Mr Robert Ayalingo, Deputy Regional Police Commander, admitted that there were some bad nuts within the Police Service and challenged the public to expose the misconduct of Police personnel to the Commanders. He said the Media was a good development partner and pledged to collaborate with them to highlight on the good things and evils in society that would pave the way for rapid development.

The Deputy Commander was full of praises for the press for exposing the crime wave and evildoers in the Region and urged them to extend it to all sectors of development.
