ADRA mobilizing communities to plant trees

Gomoa Mprumaim (C/R), May 31, GNA – The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is organising communities along the Winneba-Mankessim trunk road to plant cassia trees at both sides of the road.

The aim is to help re-generate vegetation along the road, provide shade to pedestrians, encourage biodiversity and also to beautify the area.

Mr Isaac Kankam-Boadu, Winneba field project office of ADRA, said this when he launched the tree-planting programme at Gomoa Amanfi on Saturday.

ADRA has provided about 2,000 tree seedlings of cassia to five communities and they have started the exercise from Winneba Junction. The communities are Gomoa Bemadze, Gomoa Amanfi, Gomoa Bewadze, Gomoa Otuew and Gomoa Mprumaim.

Mr Kankam-Boadu said after the rehabilitation of the Kasoa-Winneba-Apam Junction trunk road, which forms part of the Yamoransa-Mallam Junction road, the vegetation along the road had been destroyed.

He said ADRA would provide the communities engaged in the tree-planting exercise with food to motivate them to undertake the programme. ADRA is spending about 4 million cedis on the programme, which is expected to reach Yamoransa.
