Local Government Minister on two-day tour of C/R

Winneba, (C/R), May 31, GNA-The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Charles Bintim said that the hard economic measures adopted by the government was not meant to create hardship for Ghanaians but that was the “right antidote to cure the present sick economic situation of the country.”

He said that when the measures begin to show signs of economic improvement Ghanaians would start to enjoy good life and praise the government.

The Minister said this when he was addressing the staff of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya district Assembly at Winneba on Tuesday to begin a two-day visit to the Central Region.

Mr. Bintim therefore, appealed to the staff of district assemblies to work harder to improve upon their internal revenue generation to enable them to generate enough funds for development.

He sympathized with the staff for working under limited resources but however, urged them to block loopholes in revenue generation. The Minister said that the common fund for the first quarter of the year had been delayed following some reforms being made to streamline procedures in the disbursement of the fund.

The Central Regional deputy Minister, Nana Atto-Arthur who met the Minister at Winneba Junction to welcome him in the region told staff of the assemblies to cooperate towards the approval of the President’s nominee for the post of the District Chief Executives.

On behalf of the staff. Alhaji Ishaq Asuru, District Coordinating Director thanked the Minister for meeting them and promised to work harder towards the development of the district.

Among those present was Mr. Kwesi Esserku, presiding member of the assembly and Mr. Nicholas Gasu, District Police Commander.
