Tepa (Ash), May 31, GNA – Government has spent about 500 billion cedis on the first phase of the President’s Special Initiative, on the establishment of one model secondary school in each district. The project involves the rehabilitation of 31 schools, which begun last year. Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Communications, disclosed this at the 40th anniversary and speech and prize-giving day of the Tepa Secondary School held on the theme: “Quality Education Delivery in Less Endowed Schools -The Challenges”, at Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North District. Mr Kan-Dapaah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Afigya-Sekyere West, noted that, the second phase of the initiative, which comprises rehabilitation of 25 additional schools, would start earnestly, as the Ministry of Education and Sports had commenced the procurement of supervising consultants and the conduct of needs assessment. He appealed to the leadership of the National Association of Graduate Teachers, to reconsider their strike action to facilitate an amicable settlement of the impasse through dialogue, especially at the critical time when the final year students are preparing to write the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination. The Minister said as teachers they have close bonds with the students and such friendship should be maintained. Nana Adusei Atwenewaah Ampem, Omanhene of Tepa Traditional Area, commended authorities of the school for their leadership qualities, which has ensured good academic performance. Mr Benjamin Asonaba-Dapaah, a Member of the Council of State, expressed the need for collaborative efforts to improve on the logistics to boost teaching and learning.
